So for the last few weeks my neighbor has been trying to find a home for her puppy. He’s around 9 weeks old and a kelpie Australian shepherd mix. We puppy sit him a lot (he spends most of the time at our house) and he gets along with our other dog and even ignores the chickens. He knows sit and walks well, but for some reason only does so with me 🤣

It seems perfect, but my parents don’t want to keep him. My neighbor is older and can’t handle the puppy and no one seems to want him. I know this is off topic but do you guys have any ideas what to do? Or how to convince my parents to let us keep the dog? šŸ˜‚

Who would take care of the puppy (mostly)? Who would pay for the food, vet, bed, leash, neutering, etc? Has he had all his shots?

Do you have a way to pay for what he will cost, and can you commit to his care?

Puppies are expensive, and they need a lot of attention, all day long. Maybe that's their concern.

Maybe if you can help with some of the costs your parents would be okay with it?
For my pup although we got him from a friend who couldnt keep him, i helped pay for his supplies, and vet bills. I did all the training for him, i take care of him, i pay for treats and some chews. My parents buy the food. Ill buy my pups food when i move out.

Also research the breeds and make sure you can properly mentally and physically fulfill him.

What are your parents' concerns? When doing any kind of sales (persuasion), your first step is to Isolate the Objection. WHY are your parents opposed? A puppy is a long-term commitment, sometimes up to 15 years. Suppose you go off to college in a few years. Then whose responsibility will the dog be? Maybe your parents have plans for retirement, like travel, going on cruises, etc. Your puppy/ dog will not fit in with their plans. Find out what their objections are, THEN figure out how to Overcome the Objection. If possible. In spite of your desires and best intentions, it may just not be in the cards right now. But don't despair, you will get to have all the dogs you want and can afford someday. Good luck.

Make a Google presentation. About this Breed, and more. The breeds History, and what you'll need for you puppy and stuff. Worked for my Rabbits, lol

I hand wrote a 10 page article about my chickens after typing it out.

Then did a Google slide show for my ducks.

Worked for both

And so far rabbits are coming soon as well
