What to do about RATS?

We have commercial flocks of thousands of birds using our feeders. If you have chickens you are going to be spending money on treadle feeders or spending money on rodent control and still losing feed to the rodents. All yah gotta do is decide which way is best for you.

A medium feeders will feed 100 birds for one day as long as you have plenty so that a feeder is likely to be open at any given time. One feeder for 16 birds, two feeders will cover 50 birds, three feeders will cover 100 birds as long as you don't mind refilling every third day. An extra large feeder holds 63 pounds of feed and allows three birds to eat at once.

A lot depends on what kind of rat species you are dealing with . The smartest being the Norway rat . We had an infestation years back and tried every trap made and some I made with no luck whatsoever . The neighbor had 50 pigs that he didn't take care of he had so many rats they migrated over to my farm . They killed all the chipmunks and stole their burrows . I would set standard rat traps and those dirty critters would set them off then eat the bait . My wife and I watched them do it from the window . Then I tried the youtube cage traps and they were a bust not one would go in . I tried poison and they would not touch it . The only way we got rid of them is an act of God . We had the worst flooding in years and it flooded them out . The water did not drop for a week . All I could say was thank god for the flood .
