I had a young cockerel that was trying to establish dominance over the hen at the top of the pecking order. (He never succeeded before turning into dinner) In doing so he pecked and damaged a lot of the feathers on her saddle and the top of her head. The base of the feathers are still in tact and in the skin. Do I have to wait until she molts for the feathers to regrow? She is only 10 months old and hasnt had her first molt yet, so I havent witnessed that event yet. Any suggestions? Thanks.

as they are still intact you will most likely have to wait till molt ,I have a rooster that I think has been fighting with my other rooster, and his chest feathers are broken off and look like ragged fluff, but no injuries, Last year I had a hen that was abused by too many roosters her feathers were gone on her back and they grew back with out a molt.
Good luck!
