What to do about weeds?

I need to know if there is something I can spray in my yard that will kill weeds but won't hurt the chickens. We have those weeds that have those very short burrs on them and they HURT when you step on them. They are so bad that even my dog is getting them stuck in her paws. I have 3 acres of land so I can't do any of the natural remedies that I've found like pouring boiling water on them. My husband is wanting to use roundup but I've read that it's very bad for chicken. Is there anything safe that I can use?

I've found straight white vinegar poured on, or applied with a garden sprayer to work wonders. Give it a try. It won't hurt your chickens either.

I vote for vinegar. Put it in a garden sprayer and coat the leaves. Depending on the plant, they may need a 2nd or 3rd treatment.
It is much more effective than roundup. I had a severe problem with smartweed covering the whole back of the property. I did 3 test strips. 1 was roundup, 1 was an organic weed killer called Bonide Burnout. The third was plain 5% vinegar. The vinegar strip was pretty well dead the next day. The Burnout strip took 2-3 days. The roundup strip took a week.
The higher percentage vinegar you can find the better. What it does is the acidity desiccates the leaves.
More importantly, vinegar is less expensive than either of the other two products.
It is a no brainer.

Will vinegar kill the grass in the yard too?

We purchased a burner head that goes on a propane tank, it will kill your grass but it will grow back! I use it around the rocks of my flower bead and edges of fences! It works wonders on weeds tho! Same as the boiling water!
