We have a chicken with a sprain wing. We had her at the vet and she is on inflammatory meds for seven days. She isn't standing up and she is really favoring that side. What can we do to help her other than keeping her seperate from the others?

Not sure what you can do, you had xrays to confirm there were no breaks?

How long ago did this happen? A sprain or injury can take time to heal, so if it's only been a couple of days, then I'd give her time.

You can offer supportive vitamin therapy of giving 1/4 tablet B-Complex.

Do you know how she injured herself?

No they didn't do x-rays. They told my husband they didn't need too. We are figuring either Friday night or early yesterday morning. They are out at my mother in laws do to being able to have them where we are. She doesn't check on them. What it looked like is she went to lay and egg and got into a narrow area between nesting box and wall. We are thinking her wing got caught. We hate not having them here. We had cameras on them here. We cant there, but we are out there everyday with them. But that little time at night we arent.

Update on our chicken. We have her wing wrapped and she get to be a house bird for awhile atleast until she is better. she has ate alittle not much. We are keeping her inside until she can pertect herself again from our other chickens. They were really bullying her yesterday.

Oh, if it's only been a day or two, it's going to take longer to recover from a sprain.

Have you ever been injured? It takes time.

Wrapping may be helpful, but I'd also encourage her to move as she wants. Sometimes a bird will not try to get up and move at all when a wing is wrapped and restricted. I would think if the wing needed wrapping, the vet would have done that right?

Thank you we may try and leave it unwrapped. And yes I guess that is true we take awhile to mend so why wouldn't an animal.

Does she normally get bullied or chased into tight spots by the others? Removing her completely from the flock may tend to make that worse when she returns. Many use a wire dog crate with food and water to reintegrate a hen back into the flock. If she is in one near the others recovering, she might stay part of the flock. I had a polish hen who used to get stuck in tight spots when chased by a bully. She was low in pecking order, and only could see out of one eye.
