So the other day on craigslist I purchased 9 silkie roosters 8 silkie hens 2 sultan roos and 1 sultan hen. I bought with the hopes of the hens going broody to help me in hatching pheasant and peacock eggs. The guy told me they were all raised together so they get along for the most part. I have only had about five days and I have been seeing quite a few standoffs and quarrels among the boys. They are free ranging in my barn. I really don't want to kill the roos as I think they are neat. Will they establish a pecking order or will they continue to fight until they kill each other( I don't want that and will give away or seperate if need to. I am thinking of seperating the hens and maybe leave a roo or too with them if I can. I have never had chickens before so I am new to this.

9 roosters is a alot!,as long as they don't draw blood and have lots of room they should be fine.

that is what I was thinking too, but the guy said I had to take them all for the $40 cause his problem was he had too many also. I think they look so funny crowing with their fluffy little bodies. Looks like I might have to thin some out.

I took my rooster as the lady said $10 each or 4 for $30, I wanted all the hens she had so I figured why not;)

Make sure that the bossy rooster doesn't keep the less bossy ones from the food and water dish. I had that problem once. I had to keep 4 water and food dishes all over the run.
