what to do in the summer

I'm sorry to report that I lost one of my chickens to the heat here in central California. We're not exactly sure what happened -- a neighbor was house sitting and found Salt 'n Pepper dead when she went to do the evening rounds. SNP was a Brahma and perhaps she wasn't able to handle the multiple days of well over 100 temps, don't know. Now I'm down to 6 hens. The rest looked fine this evening when we got home -- cleaned their pool out and gave them their favorite treat: grapes frozen in ice. We're only halfway through our summer -- sure hope the rest do okay! My avatar picture is SNP when she was about 3 months old. RIP :-(

I'll try putting frozen jugs of water out to see if that helps. I don't want to lose any more of my girls!

I know I have given my pullets that died electrolytes and they died anyways.I still have one alive but on the breck of during she has electrolytes and is in my cool basement.
