We're raising Cornish Rock meat birds this year but we now have two birds with broken legs. We have separated them from the rest of the birds but will the legs heal or should we cull? I assume an injured animal isn't one we want for eating?

Thanks for any help.

If they are somewhere between four to six weeks of age, Cornish hen sized, I would butcher them. Their broken legs can not support the full weight of a Cornish X which they can get larger.

Sorry I dont have better news!

How did their legs get broken? If they are big enough to eat, and the leg broke from an injury, should be ok to eat?

We don't know how they broken one of their legs. When we went out this morning to feed them, they just couldn't walk and one of its legs was splayed out at the side abnormally. They were getting pecked at by the other birds so we removed them. They are currently 5 weeks old and are scheduled to be butchered in 3 weeks. One of the two chickens that has a broken leg is really, really small so it wouldn't have been weight that broke his leg.
