Hi all!! Can someone give me an idea of something to help my chickens stay cool this summer. They have sun and shade, but heat and humidity I can not control. I have a fan in there house. Is there anything else that I can do? Also.... Is there any type of plants that I can plant around there coop to grow up and around it that will not make them sick & also provide more shade?? Thanks!!

What about grape vines? They grow like crazy around here and the chicks would love to pluck off the grapes if they make it that long. Roses could do it too, but I don't know if the pickers would bother you. I put a mister on my run, the chicks didn't like it today but I think they will start to like it when the temps get up to the 100's again this weekend.

Also put down a shallow dish of cool water that they can stand in and drink. I have a plastic planter bottom that I fill up a few times a day since it gets so gross! I also dump the water in one of the spots they like to dig for dust baths. I know it takes the dust away but they like the cooler earth.

I have been freezing water in a plastic pop bottle over night and put it in the waterer in the morning. I retrieve it at night and just reused it.

I leave the cap off and put the bottle in upside down so the froozen water will melt into the drinking water.
