I have eggs in my incubator now and I will be adding eggs this weekend. My question is when it's time to lock down the first batch how do I keep turning the new batch? Or will they be okay not turning or should I just turn them anyway? This is in a homemade incubator too. I'm hand turning the eggs as well.

you are in a tight spot. either way you are doing something that people will say is wrong. in lockdown you should not open the lid. it loses heat and humidity. however, it is very important to turn the eggs in the early and middle stages. i assume that you can't get a second incubator for putting eggs in at lockdown. if your incubator heats up quick enough i would open and turn eggs as fast as possible and then replace moisture with a couple squirts from a water bottle with warm water. that's just my opinion though. good luck!

How many days apart will they be? I've read from some people here that they stop turning around day 16 or 17 to give the chicks plenty of time to get into position and haven't had any problems with that. So it's possible that you could stop turning the second group a day or two earlier than normal.
