They are odd creatures all right, I've 6 lovely nest boxes and they all lay under the ladder to the roost

Im far from experienced, but we found that our hens loved a dog food container to lay eggs in. It was the exact measurements of the recommended size of a nesting box, minus we had to anchor it to the wall of the coop. We of course removed the door from it, and they took right to it, couldn't kick eggs out, and managed to share it

With the sloped edge on it I guess they felt secure in using it, took to laying eggs in that right away!
