What to do with broody hens and no rooster

My Grandmother method is put them under a tub, with no food or water. She said they were not broody after that. LOL....I would never do that but my mom reminds me all the time "we could put them under that tub". I just put something in there nest or put them in another pen and she go back to laying. Good luck...ps never tired the Ice method
