What to do with extra roos...

Call your local Farm Co-op, Tractor Supply co. and especially 4-H.. they all have "bulletin boards" for sales and exchanges... as well as putting an Ad in the paper-- put them up "for sale" ...but do not post the price on the ad... that way, people looking for "cheap eats" won't bother calling. Make sure you call them "breeding stock" and "Hand raised" especially if they are pets-- make sure they know it!!!

IF you really want to get rid of them, once you talk to people and are sure they are gonna give them good homes, give them away for free if they come get em.

We traded a Big Ol'Silkie Roo for a Female Showgirl chick a while back Thru the Local 4-H....

And we just gave a Guy who works at Tractor Supply co. our 2 HUGE (but sweet) Rock Roo's (partridge and Barred)...
Tho we loved them, they had to go...they were trying to mate our Banties,, and causing problems for the Silkies... and we really had no plans on breeding them.

It took us 3 weeks of advertising etc.. to find the right person, and it only happened because we mentioned it to him while he loaded our feed!!
They now are the sole Males among his flock of 10 White Rock hens.. and are quite happy.

while well intended, it's perhaps misleading to think that every unwanted rooster will get a "good home" when the folks who brought him into this world can't do that themselves. if you can find that, great, but more realistically is to offer them for free and if you don't want to know, don't ask. there is a reason why i've been offered probably fifty free roosters in the past six months and not one free chicken.

you can use the farm and garden section on craigslist.

hey people will take those too. i was just speaking about roosters specifically as being hard to "rehome" as opposed to stewpot them. you can give them away or offer for a couple dollars depending on their age. same forum on craiglist.

Most of the time when you offer them on CL they will turn into stew. You can always post here and see if anyone need them for there flock. I offer them for sale and if they do not sell I will cull and put them in the freeze.

she seems to be fine with people eating them, just saying it's hard to do herself. giving free meat to hungry people is a good thing.
