We received 3 extra rooster chicks with our turkey poults today.
What do we do with them?
We han a broody hen with 10day old chicks , can we safely add them to her flock?
Should we keep them with the turkey, Ideal poultry suggests that the chicks help "train" the poults to eat and drink.

We have a very dominant adult rooster, he hasn't taken well to the other rooster we introduced and I'm worried he'd abuse new roosters if we wait too long to introduce them into the flock.

Thanks for your ideas!

No, you can't give them to the broody. She'll kill them. If her chicks were only a couple days old, it might work. You can brood them with the poults if you want. They can pass on blackhead disease to the turkeys once they're on the ground so keeping them cooped up together later isn't best. You could give them away on craigslist if you don't want to bother brooding them. Turkey poults do take a minute to get down drinking and eating so you could keep the chicks a couple days before giving them away. Or raise them for meat.

Oh no I agree don’t add them with the broody! I didn’t realize you had a broody and what I meant when I said you can add them to the flock was when there a bit older

Where are you? What breed are they? If you can not have them I would gladly take them depending on where you are and what breed they are!

You scared me a bit. Lol.
Oh no, I most certainly need to stop reading through things rushing down to the bottom to help! i really like to help on BYC with animals, and just want to help as much as I can. If I had realized there was a broody I would not have said that. I’m very happy you came on and said the correct thing!👍😁

You could check for poultry auctions around you to sale them or Craig’s list also raising them for meat is a good ideas u could raise them separate.. just my thoughts good luck 👍🏼🍀

Thanks, we weren't sure of the cut off for grafting chicks onto our hen.
We can raise them to start with the turkey, but will look into what else to do with them after we put the turkey on pasture in 8 weeks.

I have no idea what breed they are, they were extra roos for warmth in shipment. Guessing brown sexlink. Chipmunks, dark brown with gold dot on top. Ideal poultry out of Texas.
I kinda like the surprise of waiting til they get older.
And we could always raise for meat, it's a goal and part of the turkey plan.

Thanks all!

My first chicks were raised with two BBW turkey poults, and no problems ensued despite the huge size difference. They were together all the way up to when we slaughtered the turkeys, and I never had a problem with blackhead (though I've heard warnings about that).

Since you already have a rooster who is not appreciating any competition, I would raise them till they are 16-20 weeks old, then slaughter for meat. Or you could put them up on craigslist, as others have said.
Good luck!
