What to do with grit!?

Dirt or soil, even sand is not GRIT. Grit is an insoluble substance like granite, flint, quartz, etc.

It needs to be insoluble because if it is not the stomach acids in the gizzard will quickly dissolve your faux grit and it will do your hen no good what so ever.

Yes I use insoluble granite, but I thought he'd enjoy picking the grit from the dirt or would at least in courage him to do so.

Since he is on the crumble starter feed he should be fine without grit.

He's a cutie and likely a she.
Buff cochin?? If so that's a girl for sure.

I do think outside time is important. They benefit from scratching around and from sunshine.
