Dont vent sex your pet ducklings if your keeping them as pets. They wont forget being handled like that, beleive me
As I understand it, ducklings can recognize unique faces at one week old. Maybe he could use that. Wear different clothes, a hat, mask and gloves. Then gently vent sex them. Come back later dressed as himself and give them treats and such.
I admit that idea comes off as a creepy plot to molest them - and I guess it sort of is. However, doing that lets the OP determine the sexes and be able to separate out the drakes while they're still young/cute/malleable. Meanwhile, the ducklings he keeps won't associate him with the "molester" so he'll be able to more readily keep them as pets. @WannaBeHillBilly is having a bit of difficulty with his rescue/take-back duckling because their reactions/personality has already been shaped over the seven weeks they've been with other people.
That’s so funny...I like the males better too! They are sooo friendly! Not as loud either..but I love the quacking. But, here’s a warning... I thought I could have duck utopia...I had at one point 50 ducks...most drakes...I’m down to 24...by giving away, selling and...heartbreakingly eating. They get along great in the beginning...but, it won’t last if there are females to fight for come breeding season. I don’t have runners, so perhaps they are more gentle. Good luck..enjoy them while they are little..you don’t need to decide for a long time...and it’s fleeting!I shouldve seid, it could scar your ducklings, i vent sexed a single duckling i had and it never trusted me again afterwards. and i was wrong about the gender anyway
i find the Males are always the nicer pets, you can almost guess the gender just by their temperment as ducklings
It’s simply just not worth it. Just wait and see.Do. Not. Even. Dare. And. Try. Vent. Sexing. Your. Ducklings!!!Unless you have been trained and plenty of experience. The back end of a duckling is very delicate and you can easy injure and even kill a duckling if you don't know how to.
I’ll take them!Yeah, I don't bother vent sexing. It becomes apparent soon enough who is who and I've never had a problem offloading ducks, no matter the age/sex.
I’m beginning to come around to see your logic now, after my winter. But, I will always keep one male on hand of everything for when the time comes!!I hate male anything that's not fixed..If not using for breeding purposes they are not needed. Livestock should be controlled.
Same as pets.
Well it's common sense actually. Males are very sexual and driven to create. All intact animals are.I’m beginning to come around to see your logic now, after my winter. But, I will always keep one male on hand of everything for when the time comes!!
