What to do with mite infested bedding

Had a mite problem and cleaned out the bedding and scrubbed the coop. My wife wants me to take the bedding to the dump. I want to put it in a new garden bed that is on the other side of the house from the hens. They will not be able to access it. Will the mites survive without the hens?

It's great mulch and fertilizer; use it! Mites are out there on the wild birds, unavoidable. I wouldn't worry about it, and spread the bedding here too. Mary
