What to do with my stupid dog??

She is a 16 month-old GSD/lab mix.

She doesn't even pay attention to the chickens when I have her on a leash, I actually thought she had changed until I found the first half-eaten chicken.

Which would be better? A 10x10 chain link kennel, or would a 60" welded wire fence keep her in? She'd probably still have to be tied in either one, she is almost as tall as I am, when she stands on her back legs.

my grandfather would of never DREAMED of having any animal indoors, my grandfathers 14 year old dog has been OUTSIDE since the day we brought him home at 8 weeks old.

when my dad, uncle and Aunt were growing up, they had cats, and a few dogs, guess where they were?

my grandfather about had a nonsense-cow when i wanted to get him an indoor cat...

that cat is now 3 years old, she's an indoor/outdoor cat.

so for you to say dogs HAVE to be inside is saying YOUR way is whats right

Look on Craigslist for a used dog kennel/pen. Home Depot and Lowes sell 6x12 chainlink kennels for around $300 but you can find them used for close to nothing.

once you have that set up you can use hardware cloth to prevent a dig and escape. A dirt ground is ok but gets muddy. Crushed stone is cheap and much cleaner. Now add a nice comfy dog house and the dog has a place of it's own.


I'd like to comment a little on the dog chaining thing. Dogs who are chained are very anxious and exhibit behavior driven by this anxiety. My dogs will dig like crazy when they are on a chain but won't when in a run.

My dogs live in the house and one sleeps on the bed. The other is too old to climb the stairs or she would be there too. In the morning they go on their runs for an hour while I shower. When I get home, if the weather is nice, they may spend a few hours on their runs. My neighbors who treat their dogs like their children think it's cruel to leave my dogs on a run. These are the same people who compare having a dog to having a child. Don't get me going on that subject. Back to the dogs. Both my dogs wait at the dog and act very excited when I put them out.


You can try to train your dog to not kill chickens but that just won't happen with it on a leash, especially with a Lab. They are bird dogs.


Get yourself a nice kennel and give the pup a condo of her own.
