What to do with poly bags?

I saved a bunch of poly feed bags for someone on CL who posted a request. They agreed to pick them up and in fact we went back and forth and even though she drives right by my place she never followed through. I was ticked. I don't care for people who don't keep there word, but that's another story.

Well now I have about 25-30 of these bags and have tossed a few just cuz I haven't the room in the garage. What I'd like to know is if anyone here has sewn these things into grocery bags? I'd also like to know what and how you did it? Any special machine or thread?

I've offered to buy DW a new machine if I can use her old one to sew these things up and sell them as a way to earn money for the orphanage our church sponsors in India. I figure it'd just be a straight stitch and easy enough for a lefty like me to do it.

Mine are just like the ones shown in the postings. Now if you have different perhaps we can work out a trade.

Mine are the Dumor, Blue Seal. Of course I wouldn't charge anyone anything other than the postage to get them to you. If anyone wanted them the cheapest would be parcel post I think. I could trim off the bottoms and tops to save on weight.

I have been making a lot of different style bags with the ones i get,it can be a challange,but it is cool to see people looking at them and saying wow!Good luck

They arent hard to sew, I use the same machine I use to quilt with a standard needle and thread. The tricky part is that they are slippery, but you can use paper clips or hair barrettes to hold them together when you stitch. You should try and make a couple... you can carry way more groceries in them than in a paper bag!

I messed up anewer machine,i then bought a heavy duty,i use a large needle and up thread.
