what to do with roos???

Quote:
I know what you mean. I have a hen that developed a comb larger and redder than my alpha roo by the time she was 10 weeks old. She's all hen though. Lays an egg daily.
The brahmas are fairly easy to tell, from my experience. I didn't look at just the comb though, more the overall bird.

OK, I'm really dumb. What's a pullet? Here are the pics of my "girls". The 28 I got from McMurrays all died but 5 lived and one was definatley a roo. The one under my username. We gave him away. Here are the pics of the others we got locally, or at least some of them. I don't know if they are roos or not.

The RIR and the small light brahma were both born in Feb from McMurrays. The other two were born in July from a local breeder. All 11 we bought locally are twice as big as the 5 we have left out of the 28 from McMurrays and are still all alive. They all look the same and are healthy. The RIR that was laying has stopped. Here is the other one

So, do I have roosters or have they just stopped for the winter?

This one sounded like a roo, but I saw her lay an egg two days ago. Guess we just have to wait, huh?

A pullet is a hen under a year of age. A cockerel is a rooster under a year of age. Actually I started calling mine hens when they started laying.
It's harder to tell from that first pic since I can't see each chicken individually, but I see three light brahma hens. The poor girl with the orange paint is definitely a girl, but you know that already right? Basically any of your brahmas that look like her, with no pointy saddle feathers hanging down in front of their tails are hens.
The RIR looks roo-ish to me, but I can't see the saddle feathers in that pic. I'm basing my guess on just the comb/wattles and the tail that appears to be developing into sickle shaped.

also, a good saying to help with the maturity "if he can crow, he can sow" .
Basically, if he's crowing he can be fertile.
cute birds. I really like the rare orange coloration on her. (heehee)

If someone was laying white eggs, that brown bird has to be a hen (erm, pullet

). But with white earlobes, I dont think she's a RIR. Do you think maybe you got some of McMurrays Avian Encephalomyelitis chicks?
