So very cool! I think it was from our Partridge Rock as she was doing an unusual amount of talking the previous day and I noticed was checking out the egg boxes we have set for the birds.

It seems like we have been waiting forever.....just feeding, watering, cleaning, and petting the birds.....haha.

FINALLY......somebody laid an egg.....and now I don't know what to do with it.....haha. I want to hatch it as we have two Barred Rock roosters in there but only one has just started jumping on the backs of a few of the hens and the Partridge was one of the first ones.

So what did some of you do with your first egg? Did you wait for more and then try hatching some? How long can you wait and what do you do with the egg in the meantime?

Can it be cold and then warm up to room temperature before you try incubating or waiting till some more eggs come?

Or did you just eat it!

Inquiring minds would like to know.....hehe

Gobbled it up!

Usually it is best to wait a few months before setting any eggs to hatch. That gives the girl time to develop eggs the best and be a bit larger so the chicks can have a better chance at surviving. Not that pullet eggs can't be hatched, often just not the best if you can wait.

One of my chickens just started laying a week ago today.
Another one chimed in with an egg today.
So I got my 6th and 7th today.
I have been saving them in the frig until we have enough to cook everyone breakfast so everyone could enjoy them.
But with my size family these girls better get crackin! Hoping to have enough this week.

So it is best to wait until hatching if they have just started laying?

Thanks for all your responses. Maybe I should eat it and just take a good picture.
