Is the silkie mom supose to get off the eggs when they are hatching or no? After the pip how long dose it take? Will she wait on eggs that are an day late? Things to know due today first hatch? Do the chicks need water?

Put a little food and water near mom (close enough to the ground that a baby chick can reach), and let her do the rest!

She actually should not get off. They will hatch and stay warm right under her and do not need to eat or drink for at least the first 24 hours or so, as they llive off the yolk. I thiink, scientificalllly, this is so all the eggs can hatch before mama has to get up to show them what to do.
