Hello!
Looking for some insight on the behaviour of my two first time broody hens. They both went broody for the first time last week and I initially gave them 3 eggs each to sit on. I had to buy them from someone with roosters. Anyways, 2 got broken in the first week. I dont have a set up that allows me to separate them from the others. I had a different hen hatch chicks in the coop with the other last year without issue though.
These 2 broody hens get off their nests a few times every day and it seems excessive to me. The one gets off her nest maybe twice a day for 10 minutes each time and the other its more like 3-5 times for 10 minutes each time. Any chance the remaining eggs will hatch? Should I just trust the process?
I bought 2 dozen and between ones that they broke and ones that were duds on first candling, I'm down to only 19 now. I havent candled the ones the broodies are on though. Every time I see one of the broodies in the run I cant help but worry that I'm likely losing another 4 eggs because of them getting off their clutches so often. Tell me what you know please!
