What to expect when I open the box from the hatchery?

Good luck to you!! Sounds like you are well prepared. I bet everything will be great. Funny you mention a dream, I had one last night! Except with my chickens I also got a snake and an alligator who kept laying eggs and they would immediately hatch and a baby alligator would crawl out! I was so afraid of the snake in the brooder I couldn't take care of the chicks! LOL! This whole chicken thing is going to drive me nuts!

I had 3 dreams about chicks three nights in a row! The first time, I let them out briefly to play, and I lost one in the living room. I kept searching and searching under the furniture. And then suddenly I was in some huge laundry room with piles of clothes everywhere, wandering the maze of clothes to search for my chickies!

I woke up laughing about that. I posted on facebook that I was having dreams about baby chicks, and everyone thought I was pregnant but didn't know it yet. I quickly explained that I ordered chickens, ha!

I saw that you posted somewhere else about your setup. I think that if you read a few books on the subject, you'll find differing opinions on what bedding to use, medicated vs. non medicated feed, etc. Buy some books to keep as reference, and decide what's best for you, and you should be fine. Since I did that and started reading this forum, I have relaxed a bit and the anxious dreams have stopped.

I purchased Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens, Raising Chickens for Dummies, and a few coop books that have a chapter about chick care. There is some same and some different advice in each. Diverse opinions are good I guess, but can also be confusing. I wish us both good luck!
