Hi I hatched some crowned cranes and have two chicks they' re 2 days old. what should I feed them. I have been giving them dragonfly nymphs from the pond there are so many. I hatched one last year and it died later from unknown cause so i want to keep these alive. is there anything i should not feed them.

I start my Crowned And Demosilles on mealworms. Make sure you pinch them, and feed them with a pair of tweezers, slowly wave it in front of them and they soon pick up on it.
I also put a couple baby bantams with them, soon they are eating dry feed also.

should the mealworms be alive or could they be dead ones?

I am not of much help, but I would love to add cranes in the future!

Congrats on your hatch! Can you post pictures?

thank you I am feeding them right now some watery mashed up maruzi or however its spelt the exotic food for young waterfowl . they seem to really like it and one has even learned where the water dish is and knows how to drink on its own i havent seen the other drink on its own but i do water the food down alot so they are getting water from the food itself.

Same :) I haven't checked out this area in the forums before, I'm always in the pheasant/quail/chicken/turkey ones.

Where do you get cranes? We have sandhills around here and I love watching the parents with their offspring. I wondered if people had various cranes as pets and I saw this thread ^^

Shouldn't you have read up on these before you hatched them? These birds are very expensive to not do any research on them.

All birds no matter what bird they are eat bird food, worms, bugs, leaves.
