Also, chickens hate changes in feed, so try to get the same stuff all the time, don't jump around. About mill dates; last week the TSC in Milford offered Flock Raiser dated April!!! The same day, the TSC in Williamston had the same food dated mid-July. Guess what I bought? And who got complimented? Mary

I can't tell you how often I've walked out of a previously mentioned feed store w/o feed b/c the stuff was 2 - 3 months old. I simply won't buy it if it's not recently milled. My plan is to be able to use it up before it's 6 weeks old.

I like a 18% protein layers pellet. The last time I went to buy feed, the 16% protein layers pellet was 4 weeks fresher. So that's what I bought.
Yeah, Mary's correct. Chickens don't like change. If you feed pellets stay with pellets. I feed pellets and that's what I bought in a lower protein. I feed dry so I added it to their 12# feeder before it was empty and the pellets eventually came out mixed in the trough.
So far so good. My girls have eaten over half of the 16%, without a quibble.
I will buy the 16% again this week, if it's fresher. GC

My birds could care less what brand they eat, as long as they get fed. They do show a preference for higher protein feed.
