Hello all,
im new to ducks and geese and im not a 100% sure what the best food is for them. right now i feed them with meatbird food and chicken food.
Please let me know what you feed your birds.
I have a 4mo and 3/1mo olds and they are free range eaters and I also give them chicken feed with my chickens. They are all happy and healthy. Good luck
I wouldn't feed them meat bird feed, I think it can make them get TOO big, 'especially if they arn't meant for meat
I feed my ducks chick starter/grower from dumor from either one, hatch or when I get them as day olds til they're about 3-4 months, then they go striaght to breeder/layer pellets and seem to do good on that.
I recommend duck/goose starter if you can get it. we used chick starter and learned the hard way that ducklings grow too fast and the extra protein in chick starter can lead to joint/bone problems. It can also lead to a niacin deficiency. If you use it do not feed it past 2 weeks old.
I read that to slow the growth down you can feed layer pellets with 10% ratio of rolled or flatted oats. And add brewers yeast for the niacin, or poultry vitamins.
Only one remaining duckling with lazy wing (due to vitamin deficiency on chick starter and for too long). HOpefully the most recent batch won't have issues.
Hey! thank you so much for all the advise. Of corse i just feed organic non-medicated food. to all my animals.
the Ducks are between almost full grown. im guessing they are 3 to 4 month old and so are the geese.
i also recognized that they wont eat as much pellets since they have a lot of grass in there run. i also give them carrots and apples.
i mix the pellets with scratched crains.
