What to feed pigeons?

The people who raise pigeons for a living are feeding 16% Lay pellets and whole corn cafeteria style. The breeding pens are given fresh pigeon grit usually on a weekly basis. I know from experience you cannot raise squabs on milo and cracked corn. If you are going to feed grains make sure they are whole. Corn, peas(Canadian or Austrian), milo, and wheat are the basis for all grain mixes. The protein level will vary according to the quanity of peas in the mix. A maintenance mix should be approximately 12%.

I had pigeons for over 20 plus years and I use the 16% chicken pellets and they love it. I do use other seeds to but I always keep the pellets around. and I even race with pellets and I did good with them also. I had a champion in old bird races in 2005,2007. I feed them when I get ready to mate my birds. I have web site www.angelfrie.com/ky3/englelofts/ thanks Todd

The difference will be in the show ring or race, Scratch feed has crack corn very bad for pigeons.(canker)

I know some people feed pig pellets, and layer pellets. Just compare the feed tags, Alot of the pellets are never the same.

They like grain over pellets.
