All the birds in the For Dinner pen are either mixed breed cockerels from our home hatching or standard breed packing peanuts from friends' hatchery orders. I've just been giving them regular chick starter. But is there another type of feed I could give them to help them grow more meaty?

I'm on an extremely tight budget, so cannot buy any really expensive specialty feed. Also, I'm not sure what our local feed store has in the way of special broiler booster feed or anything like that. They do carry Flock Raiser and game bird starter.

But I welcome your suggestions & recommendations, and I can then see what is available from your list and what I could afford.

All we have available is the game bird starter also, and our Rocks are doing exceptionally well on it. They are growing well, although nothing like a broiler.

Expect them to eat less of the gamebird feeder then they did the starter. My cousin has red broilers, and they are eating less then half what they were when she had them on chick starter.

I actually feed gamebird feeder to all my flock, (suplimenting the free ranging) except the chicks in their first two weeks or so. It has better nutrition for the breeders when you hatch your own eggs.
