I’m picking up some more day-old silkies today and I’m supposed to be getting blue the last time I was supposed to get blue they were not blue what should I look for in day old chicks to make sure I’m getting blue

That’s what I did last year. I got the ones that were a grey color, but they darkened as they grew. I thought maybe there might be something special to look for. Guess just luck of the draw. :lau Whatever the color I’ll love them:love
I bred them for a few years... Nice blue is hard to come by in Silkies. And the tops get darker in many blue breeds.

Get a peek at the parent stock. How dark is their blue?

I went to pick them up and they weren’t even close to looking like a blue. But I did pick out these 2 cuties.

I snuck them in with my 6 day olds. Maybe he won’t notice the new color. LOL

Probably splash... if blue was ordered. Lot's of hatcheries run their BBS together. Cute babies! :love

My blue Silkie hens were mistaken for black until I got a black next to them. I bred towards lighter blues but their excessive broodiness did me in and I don't raise them anymore. But it sure was a fantastic adventure.. seeing the mamas perfect sneak attack on unsuspecting flock members passing by. And their happy little legs just scratching away fast as can be teaching the babes to forage. Congrats on your babies! :wee

Yeah, they are quite the characters. I have 11 sizzle eggs in the incubator. They were shipped and one had a crack/break, but the membrane was intact, so I put wax on it. I’m hoping for at least 4 hatches.:fl
