what to never feed your chickens ???

Years ago, I was ordering some plants out of a catalogue. There was listed "mushroom spore," and I ordered it just out of curiosity. Well it came, and it was a block of compressed horse manure with the spores in it.

I made a mulch out of horse manure, pecan leaves and pine straw and strew the spore cake through out it. Them I covered it with an old motar box. With in just days, it was covered with white button mushrooms. They looked delicious, but no body would be the first to try them. My wife said that she would cook them, but she wouldn't eat them.

End of story, we threw them all to the chickens. They ate them, loved them and none died. And now, after we have a couple of rainy days, they still sprout up.

After a day of heavy rain the backyard is covered with mushrooms and after an hour or so after the chickens get out they are all gone.

I guess they know that is good for them and what isn't
