What to put in waterers to keep clean.

I have clear plastic waterers and was wondering if their is anything I can out in there or that I can use to wash it. I have a problem with algae growing in there.


Any info wound help

Keep the waterer in shade, the water will stay cooler and algae won't be as bad. I wash mine once a week, no problems.

Our country extension agent recommends a capful of bleach to a gallon of water to keep the algae down. We have that problem bad down here with our humidity.

You can use apple cider vinegar,1Tbsp per gal. Do not use apple cider vinegar with metal waterers because it reacts with the metal.

I've just started using the apple cider vinegar. It really does work. I was cleaning the watered every 2 day even with them in the shade. I live in the Deep South, do keeping algae under control is near impossible. I now only have to clean the waterers once a week. Yeah!!

How much do use per gallon?

A piece of copper wire in the water will dramatically slow algae growth, definitely can't claim organic or natural eggs if you are adding strong chemicals to your chickens water.

I use 1 capful or about 1 tbsp per gallon
