Oh, REALLY? You think you'll never get chicks ever again??

MWAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA. You will be assimilated, trust me.

Let's not even talk about the possiblility of, oh, say - goats or a cow or a horse (or 5). Oh yeah, once you go down the chicken road you're on a very slippery path to a full blown farm.

Well, as a matter-of-fact, we do have a donkey and 2 goats, but they are already outfitted. And yes, I do realize I am on a slippery slope here and may well be on my way to a full blown addiction!

All depends on how much my kiddos are going to get into helping when mom has to work - and you know how that can go...

You can also try getting a few boxes and cutting them open and connecting them together. Mine are actually in an old dog kennel, but when we got them, they were still small enough to get through the sides. I attached to boxes together to use as a wall for it. They're out of that, now, but I'm going to have to come up with something else very soon. I have 18 chicks and they're growing fast!

I use huge cardboard boxes (I get mine from Diapers.com b/c I have 2 kids). I line them with blue "puppy pee pee pads" (that I get at Wal-mart or Petco) and for the first week, I use paper toweling on top of the pee pee pads (to avoid spraddle leg) and change the paper towels when soiled. After the first week, I remove all paper toweling and put down pine shavings.
When the chicks get to be about 3 weeks old, I tape another box or two on either end of the first box and cut "windows" in between the connecting boxes so they can have a little "Chick Condo" that they can spread out in. When they need to get closer to the heat lamp, they do that, but when they don't need so much warmth, they run around and play until they're ready for the Big Girl Coop!
Oh, and I put window screening over the top of the boxes when they get to be about 3 weeks old b/c they can (and DO) fly up on outta there given the chance!
Hope this helps!

Here's a photo of my first Chick Condo. I made it of necessity b/c one of the three was pecking another chick mercilessly. I put window screen in between the windows so they could socialize but not bully each other. It worked like a charm and now I use this "adding-on" concept for all my chicks as they grow bigger!
