I took the dogs out just now and there is a baby duck (mallard?)- tiny- sitting in my driveway all alone. I have call ducks and it must have heard them - no idea where it came from.
It's now in the house on a heating pad in a carrier. What can I use to feed it until my husband comes home this evening? I have duck grower pellets- can those be mushed up? Or oats? Or ???

duck grower pellets mash into a mush will do. and be sure to put a towel over the heating pad. Bless it's heart so many get lost this time of year and thankfully your calls probably saved it's life.

In pinch, I would grind up the grower pellets. They are too low in protein, but will work for a day or so.

Thanks. I'll do both. It's so strange- I live in the middle of a forest. Wonder where the nest is- I'm surprised that the dogs haven't "found it".

Hopefully that will work until we get some proper food this evening.

You may have to work with it a bit to get it to eat and drink. Seems like ducks nest in the strangest places. even in huge cities on top of roofs.

I'm tempted to segregate one of my females and see if she'll take care of it. It would be better off with a mama instead of in a carrier.

So true I don't know much about calls other than they are cute lil things, but I do know my Scovy girls wouldn't take it on. so watch closely.
