What type chicks are these?

I have had a similar thing happen to me in the past. I was looking for some pure Rhode Island Red eggs. I bought 3 dozen eggs from a fellow. I had a good hatch but they came out looking like Production Reds which I'm sure they were. I never bought any more eggs from him. I finally found a breeder and he sent me 15 eggs, 3 hatched.
The issue with that was likely that they came from a hatchery; tractor supply sells “Rhode Island red” chicks however as adults, I’m 90% sure they’re just production reds being sold as Rhode Island’s.

I have since bought birds from a very reputable breeder and have now hatched out several generations of good quality pure Rhode Island Reds. It does annoy me when people will sell birds or eggs as pure or heritage and they are not even close.
This female was my champion at a show.

Years ago I bought 3 dozen eggs from a fellow who said he had show quality RIR's. I bought 3 dozen eggs and I had a good hatch. I grew them out. I could tell when they started feathering out that they were not pure RIR. They looked more like Production Reds. Buyer beware. I sold them. I just saw I have already posted this true story.
