What type of chickens do you all have?

I have Light Brahmas, Golden Laced Cochins & Sultans. Oh & Muscovy ducks. I'm currently incubating some Sebastopol geese eggs, too....

I would recommend the Brahmas as cold hardy and good layers of brown eggs. Plus, they are very nice birds--they don't pick on each other, not even multiple roosters in one coop! The Cochins don't lay as much or as often but they are super nice as far as temperments go & the Sultans (so far) haven't laid at all and are much less friendly.

I guess it would depend on what you wanted to do with your chickens? Pets? Eggs? Meat birds?

I also want some Brabanters, Salmon Faverolles & some of those D'Uccles....sighs.

I have Buff, Blue/Black/Splash Orpingtons and Light Brahmas..

All do well in cold climates and as said above the Light Brahmas are good layers in winter and calm birds...so are the orps...

I have 1 Silkie
I have 1 Feather-footed Cochin
I have 2 Buff Orpington's
I have 10 Heinz 57 chickens

I love all chickens so not partial to any particular breed however I have heard the BO's have the sweetest disposition and like to be held more so I did purposely get 2 of them.

I consider all my chickens to be my pets. We do eat the eggs but will never eat the chickens. Our coop is 10x12, has a heat/cool air-conditioner in it so they have perfect temp at all times. I have a blind Rooster who lives in the house with us. I only wish I lived out so I could have more.

Thanks,
DeeDee

I'm very partial to the brahmas, so my new chicks are 7 light brahma pullets, 7 dark pullets, and 7 buff pullets; plus a dark brahma roo and a buff brahma roo. But there was a mix up at the hatchery, so conceivably I could have all of the above minus one dark pullet and a cochin instead.

I'm hoping for the best

Mine are from Ideal and I have never seen such hardy, fast growing chicks.

I have RIR's that are aweome!! Hearty birds that laid perfect even during winter.
I also have easter eggers, polish, barredrocks, 1ssh, 8 silkie eggs in the bator and some mutt chickens. None of those are old enough to lay and this year will be there first winter.

I'm really enjoying my Gold Comet sex-links, which are Rhode Island Red/Rhode Island White crosses. They're hearty, friendly birds that are laying like little machines.

My Gold-Laced Wyandottes are beautiful, with lots of personality, but are not as friendly and lay smaller eggs than the sex-links.

And my one Buff Orpington cross is flighty and nervous, but is a survivor bar none. She's bottom of the pecking order, but she is still thriving and laying daily. I'm kinda partial to her for that reason.

I have a pair of Light Brahmas, a Buff Brahma pullet, silkies (white and grey), Turkens, Madagascar games, Sex-links (black, red), barred rock, rhode island reds, brown leghorns, easter eggers.

Brahmas have always been my favorite chickens. Very beautiful stately birds. Turkens are also great birds to keep. If you want tons of white eggs then leghorns are the way to go. It comes down to what you are looking for and getting birds that fit that goal. For me I love a mixed flock and I have more different breeds on the way.

I have:
Orpingtons 4 different colors and possibly 5
White and Blue Rocks
Delawares
Speckled Sussex
Silver Gray Dorkins

I am very partial to the orpingtons because of their gentle nature
The Delawares are proving to be extrememly gentle as well
