Are silkie's the only non-flying chickens? I'm looking for something that will stay in my fenced area and won't fly out. I lost one of my Welsummer hens recently when she flew out and got caught on the gate and hung herself between the slats of the gate

I have one Welsummer roo and one welsummer hen left, but the roo is quite amorous and so I'd like to hatch him some new ladies, but hopefully one's that stay inside so I don't have to worry about them hanging themselves or dogs getting them or them wandering to the neighbors during the day, LOL. Luckily my neighbor loves my roo, just would rather them stay at home! Anyhow, I'd like to either hatch my own or buy pullets.....

Your heavy breeds don't fly well but they can if they have to.If your worried about it clip their wings on one side and then they will stay in the fence and out of trouble.
We have several more flighty breeds and all have had to be clipped to keep them where they belong-nosy chickens like to investigate

My big chickens have never tried to fly out so we don't clip them at all-Jersey Giants,Rocks, Delaware etc

I don't really want to deal with clipping wings - tried that and it didn't work with some I had before.....
any LARGE breed chickens with interesting colors? Seems like jersey giants were only black?

Heavy birds can fly over four foot fence with wing clipped. My giant jersey dont have their wings clipped and they go over it to. I plan on using PVC pipe at 10 feet in length to make a cover over run.
