What type of ducks are these?

Hi... new here.

I've been feeding ducks at the creek and community park near my house for years . After a flood last month 2 adult ducks have shown up. The keep mostly to themselves and on occasion will swim around with the other mallards. The main difference would be the unique coloring and that they are friendly to me. The mallards, maybe 20+ are very skiddish. The 2 ducks in questions are very friendly and will appear at the same location and time each day for food. I've been leaving cracked corn. They eat every drop.

Can anyone help identify? Maybe lost domestic Swedish ducks? In years of seeing the ducks I've never come across these.

Welcome to BYC. I believe they are cross bred mallard derived ducks. Does that creek freeze in the winter ? If so they will be vulnerable to predation.

It does not freeze solid. Some ducks remain year round.

Those unfortunately were probably dumped there by someone. They appear bigger than those wild mallards, so probably domestic breeds rather than color mutations in a wild mallard.

The black and white one is an adult cayuga female. They get white feathers as they age. The other one I’m not sure about.

They need a safe home not being able to fly really puts them in danger. Any chance of you adopting them or calling a water fowl rescue in your area?

Unfortunately I could not adopt them. I live in an apartment building a few blocks away from the park and creek. I can find out about a water fowl rescue group in the area.

I wasn't aware they can not fky.

Most domestics can’t fly too heavy. That would be awesome if you could find a rescue group,here in NC we have Carolina Water fowl rescue and there is another in the New England states can’t remember which state called Majestic water fowl rescue. I am sure there are others google may help you. Also if you look up your state thread at where am I where are you someone maybe interested in adopting them with some help you could probably catch them pretty easy especially if the are already coming around for food. Thanks for the info. I'll find out what i can and update here.

In the meantime I'll absolutly keep feeding the pair.
