I was wondering what feather type people might think my hen Persephone is? She's a 3rd generation mix breed and got this positively stunning feather pattern! My first thought was penciling... But upon closer inspection it seemed like mottled... But not quite... I'm very curious to see if anyone has any ideas on what pattern she has!

I just love how fascinating and unique mix breeds are! I don't understand why people say pure breeds are 100% better than mix breeds and they're just "worthless mutts" like bruh just look at how stunning Persephone is!

She appears to have some concentric pencilling on her breast but since she is a mixed color her feathers are mixed colors. She also has shafting and stippling on her sides.

That's so interesting! What might a rooster of the same type look? I did a hatch recently who all have mom's that are her half sisters (Persephone is in a separate flock) and some of the chicks look a lot similar to her and I'm hoping I could take one of the lookalike cockerels and cross them to her

They'd just be black with a gold neck, back, and shoulders. It's impossible to know if they have the same genetics but it's more likely if they are siblings with her.

Fascinating! If I do get identical hens and cross the right roosters to them could the pattern breed true?

She's probably split for Extended Black and Partridge bases.

So it's impossible to breed true.
