What type of snake?

This is a little off topic and I didn’t know where to ask it but hopefully someone might know. I’m from SC and it looked like some sort of rattlesnake. He had to die since he was in the pen and I didn’t know if he was good or bad. I don’t like killing these guys😢

I should add it’s still good to be cautious though around any snake you don’t know. See if you can get a number for someone who relocates snakes in your area. They may be able to help next time. People usually get bit when they try to kill the snake
