What type of wood should be used when building a chicken coop?

Pressure treated wood sold for residential use no longer is preserved with arsenic; they use a copper based preservative now, much less toxic.

It might be worth while to consider pressure treated wood for the part of the tractor that is going to be in contact with the ground.

If it comes within two feet of the ground I use treated wood for all construction. Folks in a more arid or colder climate can use other woods, but in Florida if you want it to last more than a year it has to be treated, cypress, or cedar. Treated is a lot easier to find and usually cheaper.
