Well those crazy yorkies of ours will eat just about any vegetable or fruit(except celery or cilantro, though they do give those the ol' college try to the tune of all over the floor). We don't let them eat anything else, though they do keep trying to tell is us it's ookkkkk... not to worry.. we got thissss!
But once when I worked at a veterinary hospital I assisted in a couple of good dog surgeries. One was bisection and removal of a dog's intestine for impaction due to an entire squirrel, the whole thing... hardly even chewed! Though it was pretty nasty by the time we saw it.
The second was bisection of the intestine and removal of an entire pair of women's panty hose!

mine does eat , well chew up , crazy stuff too. She got DH CK jeans, clothes hangers...2x2's.. if it is within reach she'll chew it up. But she doesnt eat kitty poo or furniture
my cat on the other hand will NOT eat any human food, not even meat left out to thaw.
My great Pynes. would rather be a vegatian than eat meat. If you offer him meat and veggies together or meat and his dog food he will eat the meat last. I think sometimes he only eats the meat so my other dogs don't get it. When I take veggies out for the chicks or to the compost he thinks he should eat it.
He picks his own veggies from the garden to eat, peppers tomatos or whatever is in the garden.
One of our dogs loves basil, so much so that we keep the herb garden fenced. He also shares a banana with dh in the mornings. Just a note to everyone......... GRAPES can cause kidney failure in dogs so please don't let them have them.
