What went wrong with this calf?

Thanks everyone. It was very disappointing but I told my husband he likely got something contagious from the sale barn. The only reason he bought this particular calf was because they brought him out with a herd of black angus calves and the person that bought the lot was sitting next to my husband and was saying he has no use for that Holstein so he was just going to take it home and shoot it. my husband, being such a nice guy bought the Holstein off of him. I really appreciate all of your feedback. Like I said, new to raising calves, hopefully I can keep my husband away from the auction barns and we can find a good farmer to buy from!
