What will I get from RIR x ?

I have a RIR cockerel who I am thinking about breeding with my Light Sussex and Maran hens.
I think I will get Gingernut Rangers from the RIR x LS cross. But not so sure what I will get from the Marans cross. I have 2 cuckoo Marans and a copper Marans so would be two different types. I think the chicks would be sex able at hatch but wondered if anyone had done any of these crosses before? Or could suggest any other interesting crosses I could do with the RIR boy- I have a CLB hen and various Orpingtons.
Any advice / info / suggestions would be much appreciated.

I know speckeldeys are Maran x RIR but the other way round RIR hen

Your red roo over your Sussex hen would give you red sex links.
Your red roo over your cuckoo hens would give you black sex links.

Other than that, you're crossbreeding, so you're going to get, well, cross breeds. Sex links aren't really a breed, just a genetic thing that lets you tell male from female at hatch.

That said, I've seen some really nice layers that are RIR/Buff Orp crosses. I agree, whatever you do you'll come up with nice layers and decent sized cockerels, if you're inclined to eat your cockerels. If you're hatching, you DO have a plan for your cockerels, don't you?
