so i went out this morning and saw my silkie dead with its leg eaten ! i live in the middle of the city and have never seen anything bigger that a blue jay in my yard. would this be from a cat?

Racoons are pretty common in even city areas, or maybe a possum? So sorry for your loss

this didnt happen inside the fenced in coop area the silkies leg was pulles thru the chicken wire

Well, for a start, blue jays can and do kill small poultry.

But there are many predators in the city: raccoons, rats, domestic cats, even coyotes. Although a coyote would have eaten more than 1 leg.

If the leg was pulled through the wire, the most likely culprit is a raccoon. They are well known for pulling poultry up against the wire and killing it.

would setting a trap even help? or would the racoon just keep returning?
