What would eat 2 dozen eggs in one night and not leave a single shell?

Our poor Emma dog is only 8 lbs...and knows not to eat the eggs because she gets beat, and her food dish was full...and I checked her belly just to cover that base, and she wasnt fat...I am so frustrated! If they lay any more this season I am taking ALL of the eggs and incubating myself.

Might not be your dog.

My dogs are large but would not hurt the bird on the nest - just nose under or move the bird. Only the most tenacious duck hides a nest in the sage brush and hatches here - most nest in the run or coop where the dogs are not allowed unless invited - they hang around the rundoor shamelessly but will not go in. They will even steal eggs from the wild birds but not hurt or try to catch the bird.

The only way an egg is safe around them is for it to be in the coop/run, in the house or hatched.

I know if they were allowed off the property (it is fully fenced so they do not roam) and should find a nest - the eggs would be history but the bird (duck, chicken, wild bird) would be safe and alive.

I had a possum eat all my chicken eggs and made himself quite at home in one of the nesting boxes as well, no shells left. I know Skunks do eat eats but not sure if they leave the shell or not, but not always do they smell, so that could be an option too!

A couple of dogs could eat 2 dozen in just a few minutes and leave no trace.

I have seven dogs, and they get any cracked eggs or nests that I find hidden that I don't know the age of.
An egg on the ground near any one of them lasts about 10-15 seconds before it's gone without a trace

One of my huskies stole 2 dozen eggs right out of the incubator one day. Even put the lid back on the incubator after he was done!
Didn't know what happened to the eggs until Mr. Duke became ill and up came eggs.

Also had a mother o'possum in the chicken yard and took 1 poulet a night for 4 nights straight.

I agree with previous posts of either dog or human.
Get yourself a bigger dog that doesn't eat eggs or birds and problem solved!
I would say dog because of the bird's missing tail feathers, for obvious reasons... but I would also say human because of the bird's missing tail feathers. A human may have tried to grab the duck, thinking dinner and then realized it was making too much noise and let it go.
Crazy things happen in this world...

We haven't had opossum here but have been visited by plenty of other critters. In our experience a skunk was the egg-stealing culprit, and yes, s/he took an entire nest in one night.
