What would you do with this run and coop? - help with slanted roof please

glad I could help.

You'll definitely want more than 2/12 if you get snow, if 3/12 is all you can get, brace it a LOT and what ever size boards you were going to use, go bigger and closer together. you're spanning more than 12 feet? I wouldn't go under a 2x8 and I'd put them 12" on center. As aart said, you don't want to lose a roof to a snow load and at 3/12 it's going to take a long time to run melt and run off, unless I'm reading that you're going to be out there clearing it by hand?

So we have 2x6s that we are going to use. We were given them for free and don't have the money to go purchase bigger lumber. I will take your suggestion and add in lots of support. 12" on centre. I'm also going to put some posts in the middle of the run for extra support. But we will definitely keep the snow cleared off. We lost a portable tarp-like garage to snow so we've already learned that lesson! Lol

well you just can't beat free! LOL

if you're planning on putting extra posts/supports in, then the 2x6's should be ok. Another way of support would be, line up your extra support posts in one line across the middle, then put another 2x6 across under all the rafters attached to your posts. That would give some more support to the middle of all the rafters

My husband and I were quite busy this past weekend. We didn't end up having enough 16' boards to do 12" centre so they are 24" centre. We will just have to be diligent about the snow. It will have to do! It's at least better than not having a roof at all. :) since the last picture I've got the other wall fenced too! It's almost done and ready for hens!
