what would you pay for a pair of east indie ducks?

Hi! My bei drake came from Melanie (fluffnstuff) as well. He's quite stunning, but he is lonely.

This scenario just goes to prove its about money. I understand you have time and money invested in these birds, but knowing that Melanie sells them for 15$, why wouldn't someone just get ducklings or eggs from her? This kind of deal is what makes exhibition poultry (competitive showing) unaffordable to everyone else. You have raised young off this pair, which drops the cost you have in them. Just because someone out there is willing to pay an arm and a leg for something doesn't mean you have to try and get that out of them. JMHO.

I do apologize if it came across as hateful, but to me it sounded like you wanted to see how much you thought you could get out of them. Take Marans for instance, because they became a fad, they were absolutely outrageous! I understand that is how things work these days, but we are partly responsible for that. You can see silkies giong on Eggbid for $300+. I personally think that is nuts! There is no feathered animal that is worth half of a house payment. But like I said, its JMHO.

We don't really have any experience selling these ducks and we were just wondering what we should charge for nice quality ducks. Didn't mean to come across as we were trying to get rich off them.

The price for a duckling or chick is considerably less than for an adult bird, regardless of quality or breed.

Many people would prefer to purchase proven adult birds and breed from them rather than purchasing chicks or even worse eggs and hoping that at least one or two will make the grade many months later.

Wanting to know a realistic price for ones bird is not a sin, and underselling one's stock is bad for all who breed and even occasionally sell their birds. This is not about turning a hobby into a business or making a killing on the bird market. I too have problems with breeders who do that. I have absolutely no problem with people selling their birds at a rate that will help support their hobby, and that includes selling a bird for $100 or $300 or whatever its quality rates on the open market. If you dislike the price, don't purchase.

Me too. I don't honestly know anyone who raises poultry, even SQ poultry, and gets rich doing it. It's all too often a labor of love.

Call Ducks and East Indies, if of good quality, are very expensive. There's no reason someone shouldn't ask what they're worth if they're not sure. And yes, a proven pair is worth MUCH more than ducklings, no question about that!
