What would you spend on a chicken coup?

Sadly when it gets into the 500-700 range as someone else said it makes more
sense to just get a shed that can be re-purposed if I get tired of chickens. It doesn't
fly to get a coop for 600 when I can get a 8x10 shed delivered on site for close to
800-900 range that can be used for the garden tools, lawn tractor, or scooter if chickens
are a passing obsession. If I borrow my neighbor's flatbed I can pick up a nice but, used
10x12 shed for about 400-500 locally.

To each their own though. If you can sell them then go for it.

I totally agree with what you said. But I know that a lot of people dont have the room in their backyards for a shed of that size, or just dont like the "look" of them. People seem to want something that is more visually pleasing. Or rather I hope so

Dogfish, I love your coop. I'd say it was much too nice to let chickens poop in it but, bycers might come after me with tar and feathers. I think I would just sit and stare at it for hours, probably use it for MY secret sanctuary.

Funny I keep seeing you folks on the eastern side of the country saying stuff like this, but around here 400-500 dollars gets you a rusty snow load damaged Sears shed. A decent looking 10x12 that's sturdy enough to take the snow load we have to contend with will run well into the 1200 dollar range. More if you want one that actually looks good.

The other thing to consider is that frankly a walk in coop for a small suburban flock is way more work than it's worth when you have to dig the dagum door out every time it snows.

The last thing is that much like the Eglu there are a number of people that just flat WANT a purpose built coop. In the last year I've built and sold 2 tractors, and 3 hard mount coops. So the market is there. I approach every coop build the same way. If it doesn't sell, no biggy I'll just keep it and use it. So far I haven't been able to replace my old free crate coop yet.

I love that, LOL! That's what I need! Unfortunately, without chickens and especially a lot of poop it would just become another storage place for DH's junk.... umm... er... treasure? Yah! I mean treasure,..... I guess.

I do agree, very nice coop.
