Cup Plants are native to the Tall Grass Prairie. They grow 8-10 feet tall. The leaves form a cup around the stem collecting water and dew. Birds drink this water. They reseed like crazy so you need to remove volunteers that are unwanted. They get a yellow sun flower like flower.

I'd think if you amend the soil with "donations" they would do fine.
